How to prevent injury during exercise

There is always a risk of injury when you exercise but you can reduce that risk by warming up and cooling down properly and making sure that you listen to your body. Unfortunately, you may still get injured from time to time and it’s important that you take the time to recover when you do.

But what if you keep getting injured over and over, and usually in the same area? Persistent workout injuries can make it impossible to keep up with your fitness routine and, in most cases, there is usually a specific reason for them. The good news is, that means you can do something about it and hopefully prevent further injuries in the future. Here are some of the most likely causes of your persistent workout injuries.

Not Allowing Yourself To Recover

When an injury puts you out of action, it’s vital that you recover fully before you start exercising again. The problem is, people make the mistake of thinking that they are fully recovered because it doesn’t hurt anymore, but that isn’t the case. Even though the pain has gone away, that doesn’t mean you are at full strength again and if you return to your normal routine, you risk injuring yourself again. Take your doctor’s advice and rest for however long they tell you, even if you feel ok. When you do start working out again, you need to ease yourself into it slowly

Musculoskeletal Issues

Sometimes, persistent injuries happen because you have underlying musculoskeletal issues that put pressure on certain areas of the body when you work out. Unless you can sort out the root issue, you will keep injuring yourself and the injuries will become progressively worse over time. If you are concerned, you should see a chiropractor for treatment. They will be able to give you an assessment and find out if there are underlying issues causing your injuries. If there are, they can help to realign your body to relieve pressure and prevent more injuries in the future.
If you think that the problem might be more to do with your spine than your muscles, you should also consider getting extra doctoral and medicinal help, just in case. If you were to leave it alone, that would be unlikely to improve, and it might even get worse, so it is definitely best to avoid this as much as you can. In some rare cases you might even need CT spine surgeons, so it is best to get whatever help you think you might need.

Using The Wrong Form

Form is so important when exercising and if you keep injuring yourself, it could be because you are using the wrong form. If you are lifting weights, for example, and you don’t do it correctly, all of the weight is taken in the wrong areas and can damage joints and muscles. People tend to make the mistake of starting with heavy weights before they get the form right because they think they’ll get quicker results. But if you do exercises incorrectly, you won’t get the right results and you will keep injuring yourself. So, it’s actually better to start off with a low weight that you can comfortably lift and focus on your form. Once you are executing the exercise perfectly every time, then you can start increasing the weight.

Persistent workout injuries don’t happen for no reason and they’re usually down to one of these mistakes. But if you make some simple changes to your workout and recovery plan, you should be able to avoid any more injuries.
