Whether you want to host alfresco evenings for your friends, or kids’ birthday parties, your garden is a great place to extend your home and create a great event for everyone to enjoy. With the lighter evenings, warmer weather, and beautiful colors in nature to enjoy, garden parties in the summer are a must.

If your garden has been neglected over the years, hosting a garden party might seem a little intimidating. With the right knowledge, you can clear up your garden and quickly and easily prepare it for hosting fun events in the summer.

#1 Tidy and declutter

Before you can do anything with the space, you need to see what you are working with. Start by clearing out any old rubbish, debris, and dead plants. This will make it a safe environment, and easier to prepare for summer parties. You can extend this step by de-weeding your garden, mowing the lawn, and cleaning any paving that you have. These are small things but will make the world of difference as your garden will be clean and tidy, and ready to add to.

#2 Set up a seating area

If you want to host parties in your garden, you are going to need an appropriate seating area that will welcome your guests and make them comfortable. The most common solution found in the garden is decking, as it is easy to maintain and look after, and provides you with a variety of styling options. It means that you can use the garden regardless of the weather, as you don’t have to worry about any mud or puddles and keep your furniture and equipment protected.

If you don’t already have decking, then you can hire a professional deck builder to help get you started. You can then add chairs, tables and a barbeque, hang some lights and decorations, and even add a cover, such as a gazebo to provide your guests with protection from the sun, or the unpredictable weather. You can then add additional seating on the grass, using picnic blankets or camping chairs, depending on how many guests you have at your event.

#3 Create a theme

Creating a theme in your garden can create a great first impression, as well as leave you with a beautiful space to spend time once the shenanigans are over. First, consider the theme of your garden. You can add splashes of color around the space with flowers and plants and add some interest with water features and ornaments. You can then set up some decor that is specific to the event, such as bunting and balloons. This is an excellent way to impress your guests, create an inviting space and prepare it for a party.
