1 medium-sized onion, sliced thin
1 tbsp ginger, finely chopped
1 tbsp garlic, finely chopped
2-3 green chillies, finely chopped
1 tbsp tomato puree
2 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp corn starch mixed with 3 tbsp water
salt, to taste
2 tbsp green onion, chopped
1 small bell pepper (green or yellow), chopped
2 tbsp cooking oil

Method
Fry the paneer pieces till brown on all sides, drain them on a piece of paper, then place them in a bowl of warm water.

In a non-stick pan, heat oil and saute chopped green chillies, ginger and garlic for a few mins. Add chopped onions and bell-peppers and fry till lightly browned. Add paneer pieces, salt, tomato sauce, and soya sauce and cook for 2 more minutes.

Add corn starch mixture and stir till sauce thickens, adding more water if necessary. Cover and cook for 2-3 minutes to allow paneer to soak in all the flavors, and garnish with chopped green onions.

Garnishing Tip: To make the spring onion flower, take a 2 inch stalk with a little bit of green and the white bulb; Slit it vertically, making 4 cuts. Pull down the slits, then place the onion in a bowl of cold water till you see curls appear. Use as a garnish on the hot and spicy Paneer Chilli!

This is a fantastic restaurant style recipe. I tried it without tomato puree, cornstarch etc and it came out just fine. Really like your site, great recipes!

  2. HI there, as others have suggested above, you should add a little more soy sauce to make it better, however, his is a dry appetizer dish, and hence will not have any gravy as such. As for paneer, the fresher you use, the better it will cook and stay soft inside, and crispy outside.

    Hope this helps!

i tried it . but it didn't come out so gr8. there was absolutely no gravy , so it looked nothing like the picture. and the paneers texture came out wrong.

Agree with shaheen about the soy sauce. I added couple more green chillies too to suit the Indian palate. Thanks for sharing and keep blogging !
