Strawberry-Rhubarb Sangria Recipe

The Strawberry Sangria is a great way to entertain friends, and can serve as a lovely accompaniment to Mexican meals.Susbtitute strawberries with other seasonal fruits, and enjoy your Sangria in any season!

Ingredients
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 tsp vanilla essence
2-3 rhubarb stalks – chopped
6 strawberries – chopped
2 ounces brandy
1 cup sparkling rose
a shot of red wine (optional)
1 tbsp superfine sugar
1 lime – juiced
strawberry slices – for garnish

Method
In a saucepan, combine granulated sugar, 1 cup water, and the vanilla essence. Simmer until sugar dissolves, turn off heat, and add chopped rhubarb. Cover for 5 minutes. Break up rhubarb with a spoon and set aside for 30 minutes, then strain.

Crush the berries into the brandy in a bowl; let sit for 30 minutes, then strain the juice. Combine brandy mixture, sparkling rose, red wine, superfine sugar, lime juice, and the rhubarb syrup in a pitcher, and stir in the strawberry slices!

Dazzle your guests with this refreshing Strawberry Sangria in the hot summer months. Skip the brandy and wine for a fresh & fruity summer drink!

  1. Nova – you can let it sit for about an hour so the berries and the liqueur blend well together. But overnight is definitely not needed; I’d say max a couple hours.

  4. Sounds like a great recipe… I hope it’s not too late in the year to find some Rhubarb. I’ve noticed that a lot of my local stores haven’t been carrying it.
