Baked Macaroni with Cream Sauce

To make this simple recipe more enticing and tasty, try adding flavored cheese or some vegetable to it, and instead of the traditional microwave version, bake it in a casserole to make it more appealing to kids and adults alike. This recipe for Baked Macaroni with Cream Sauce will serve to be a lovely variation to the classic dish, and can be used for a quick snack or a light evening meal. It has great flavors like Oregano and basil mixed with Mozarella cheese, but if your kids are too fussy about food and prefer simple mac & cheese instead, just skip the spices for a more kid-friendly version.

Ingredients:
2 cups – macaroni
1 – onion, finely chopped
1 – tomatoes, finely chopped
2 – garlic, finely chopped
3 tbsp – olive oil
5-6 tbsp – tomato sauce
1 cup – milk
1/2 cup – white sauce
3-4 tbsp – coriander leaves, finely chopped
1 tbsp – oregano
2 tbsp – black pepper
1 cup – grated mozzarella cheese
salt to taste

Method
Cook Marconi according to package directions. Drain cooked macroni and allow it to cool a little bit.

In a medium saucepan, heat olive oil over medium-high. Add onion and garlic and saute gently for 2-3 minutes. Add chopped tomatoes & coriander leaves and saute it for 5 minutes on medium heat or till tomatoes are done.

Add tomato sauce, oregano in the saucepan. Mix well. Add 1 cup of milk, 1 table spoon of black pepper and salt to taste. Bring it to boil. Lower the heat & Cover it and allow it to simmer for 15 minutes. Your Red Sauce is ready.

Grease a microwave safe dish with 2 table spoon of olive oil and add a layer of the red sauce on the bottom. Spread one-third of white sauce over top, carefully applying out with a large spoon or spatula. Add cooked macaroni over the White Sauce. Press lightly with the help of spatula.

Add 1 cup of grated cheese over the macaroni. Sprinkle black pepper on the top. Repeat the same process once more. i.e apply red sauce over the cheese. Then apply white sauce, macaroni and finally remaining cheese.


Microwave it at 60 degree for 5 minutes and again grill it for another 2 minutes. Take out in a plate, mix well and serve hot.

  1. I'm definately going to try it but I thought myself when reading it it looks a little bland,so I am going to add basil and italian seasonings to my sauce as well as seasoning salt. When my macaroni is done i always mix it with a little butter, seasoning salt and garlic powder it adds a very nice over all flavor, and any time I make a whaite sauce I flavor it with, again, seasoning salt, white pepper, and paprika. I use very little seasoning salt in each item then actually season each layer as I go. I'll let you all know how it comes out.
